Camp Hope Day 1

After a long day of travel all 13 of us attending Alternative Winter Break to New Orleans have finally made it to Camp Hope.

There is definitely a sense of excitement to start exploring the camp, the city and to begin our service!

About the Trip

New Orleans, LA was hit with a devastating hurricane just under 10 years ago. While this storm caused tremendous damage and affected thousands of families, it also exposed issues that New Orleans was dealing with prior to the storm.

Now, 10 years later, we still see issues of poverty, access to affordable housing and healthy food, and quality education. This trip will be working with various organizations that seek to address these issues including: A Community Voice, Boys & Girls Club, New Orleans Mission, and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Students will spend the week working with local agencies, participating in critical reflection, and exploring the New Orleans community through conversation. This blog will highlight those student's journeys and experiences.
